Which runes to take: Top lane
Ok, so we took a look at the new runes for ADCs and the middle lane already. This time we take a look at the top of the map:
If you want to play a Tank the RESOLVE tree is made for you:
If you play a champion that can immobilize enemies go for AFTERSHOCK:
After immobilizing an enemy champion, increase your Armor and Magic Resistance by 20 for 30% for 2.5s. Then explode, dealing magic damage to nearby enemies.
Damage: 40 – 120 (+3.5% of your maximum health)
If not, go for GRASP OF THE UNDYING (man that s*** is strong):
Every 4s in combat, your next basic attack on a champion will:
– Deal bonus magic damage equal to 4% (2% for ranged) of your max health
– Heal you for 2% (1% for ranged) of your max health
– Permanently increase your health by 5 (2 for ranged)
A typical rune page for Tanks might look like this:
- Change OVERGROWTH with SECOND WIND if want to be trading a lot during laning phase
As a Tank, you have the free choice of your secondary tree: Go with SORCERY (like in our example) to gain CD and some extra damage, DOMINATION for some sustain and more damage, PRECISION to gain Tenacity or INSPIRATION for more utility. The choice is yours :).
Personally, we would go for RESOLVE as a Top Lane Bruiser as well. Going with GRASP OF THE UNDYING as well. But you could also go SORCERY with the SUMMON AERY as the keystone or either INSPIRATION taking the UNSEALED SPELLBOOK keystone to have Ignite during the laning phase and switch it to teleport later on.

When choosing the primary tree is already hard the same goes for the secondary tree. It depends on what you want to archive. We decided to go for DOMINATION for extra laning and split pushing power.
