Which runes to take: ADC

With the new preseason going live, players around the globe have been wondering which runes to take for which role. We try to give a little help going through every role – starting off with the ADC:

The new rune system is pretty versatile so that runes need to be changed according to your and the enemy’s team comp. Since AD-carries rely heavily on many auto attacks, you want to go for PRECISION in almost every situation.

Default runes

The most common keystone will most likely Lethal tempobe LETHAL TEMPO:
1.5s after damaging a champion gain 30 – 80 % Attack speed (based on level) for 3s.
Attacking a champion extends this effect to 6s.
Cooldown: 10s
Lethal Tempo allows you to temporarily exceed the attack speed limit.

Lethal Tempo allows you to dish out significantly more damage in team fights and even in normal trades. The attack speed boost of 80% in the late game is a huge deal, allowing you to get almost double the number of attacks off for 6 seconds. And we all know how long 6 seconds can be if a 6-item AD-Carry is firing on you. This keystone is the perfect match for attack speed dependent champions like Kog’Maw, Vayne, Kalista, Caitlyn or Tristana.

The safe way

Fleet Fotwork

The safe keystone for ADC will  most likely be FLEET FOOTWORK:
Attacking and moving build Energy stacks. At 100 stacks, your next auto attack is energized.

Energized attacks heal you for 5 – 50 (+0.1 AD, 0.2AP) and grant 30% movement speed for 1s.
Healing is 60% as effective when used on a minion.

Fleet Footwork is pretty much a reworked version of the old Warlord’s Bloodlust mastery keystone. It helps you sustain through a tough lane matchup and also grants movements speed to run from big tanks and other threads. The downside is that you will not be able to do as much damage as an ADC with Lethal Tempo.

The secondary tree

Most of the time we think that DOMINATION is the best way to go since TASTE OF BLOOD gives good sustain and EYEBALL COLLECTION grants more AD, though it might be hard to collect stacks for it. But of course, the other trees have some good options for ADCs as well. These are:


  • Future's Market rune FUTURE’S MARKET
  • Hextech Flashtraption rune HEXTECH FLASHTRAPTION
  • Magical Footwear rune MAGICAL FOOTWEAR


  • Scorch rune SCORCH
  • Gathering Storm rune GATHERING SToRM

RESOLVE (worst):

  • Second wind rune SECOND WIND
  • Demolish rune League of Legends DEMOLISH

Things to adjust:

overheal rune

Take overheal when playing with a healing support or when you want to play a little safer

Triumph runeTRIUMPH:
Take Triumph when you like playing dangerously and want to go for flashy plays

Cut down rune

Take Cut Down
 when playing against a team comp with big tanks

Coup de Grace runeCOUP DE GRACE:
Take Coup de Grace when playing against a squishy team
